I strongly agreed with you. Even when miss Lin was in Northern Europe, she was able to forseen danger coming to her way before getting rescued by Wade. An important mission like this to my own understanding should be well prepared for.
From my own opinion, they (the nums) too are waiting for the death of Meng to looth his magical power that’s why they are doing everything possible to discourage them from progressing.
More mystery to solve before Charlie and WaƱ’er can proceed forward. Maybe a rest in the hills before coming back.

I read the comments, which raises more questions; is the Nun a man, he reported to his wife. Who ever they are they don’t won’t to leave traces of their presents. They mention how smart Lin Wan’er was, it’s someone that knows Sara and wants to protect her. This key that only Charlie can open or close is very powerful. This key he will be able to communicate with his parents. Now once Charlie moves forward, because he’s not turning back and Lin Wan’er is not leaving his side might encounter some danger. The author is going to throw a twist in the plot.

I think the mysterious person/wife in which the nun went to report to might be someone who wants to protect Charlie. She could be Charlie’s mother. She wants her son to be stronger by opening the riwan palace before he could confront Sara!
